Creating a Small Church Town
Hey Guys!
One of my favorite parts of the game is the head area, also known as the Church Town. As someone who lives in a small town recreating a small town in our game was a great experience. I took inspiration from the colors of my town. My town has a lot of dull, washed out, pastel colors and I wanted to bring those colors into Falling Worlds. In the game the town surrounding the church has been maintained fairly well and has not fallen to the infection and the destruction like the other surrounding towns.
Unlike the other areas in the game I did not need to not show that they were run down the areas by using holes in the buildings and infection on the buildings. I did take inspiration from my small town and incorporated similar dull and washed out colors though. If the head town was in perfect condition the buildings would’ve been bright with nice colors, but as a result of the tough times the buildings have begun to fade.
Another way I took inspiration from my small town was with small simple building exteriors and interiors. All of the interiors are small and simple interiors like the shops and houses in my town. The bank in the town is very similar to my bank. When you enter, there is just a counter and a hallway behind the counter. To make the town’s banks a little more fun I changed the hallway to a bank vault, but still kept the small simplistic theme. All of the other interiors keep the same small “mom and pop” style interior and I feel like overall they really pull together the theme of a small church town.
