Dingy Subway Station

Hey guys!
After numerous attempts, I have finally finished our subway platform. The subway platform is meant to act as a transition between levels. Players will be able to take the bloodline from area to area, and the subway platform is a small level before the player enters the world. Assets located on the subway platform include a brochure stand that the player will be able to interact with and learn about other locations on the map, as well as a ticket dispenser. Ultimately, we would like to turn the run down-ticket dispenser into a fully operational interface. This way the player can walk up to the ticket dispenser and purchase a train ticket to travel to wherever they would like to go. There are also going to be a few other quest related assets on the train platform that the player will be able to interact with.

One challenge when creating the train platform was creating depth on the platform. I wanted the train tracks to be in the foreground, then the cement platform to be the middle ground, and then the wall to be the background. The issue I was running into was I also wanted to subway to tracks to be lower than the cement floor, similar to a New York City Subway. I think placing the train in the foreground instead of the background would potentially lead to cool effects because we can have the train come through, and for a few seconds it would cover the whole screen and then we could have the loud screech of a train passing by play.

Ultimately, I am happy with how the subway platform turned out. It took a few attempts to finally get it right, but I feel like now it is ready for the other assets to be placed inside and it can be added to the game. Currently, I am working on knocking out random assets that are on the asset list like lamps, and ice cream carts, but once I receive the next map from the game design team I will be able to move on and start to work on the next area.
