Sam Levine Devlog #8 and 9

Overview/Featured Work

Over these past few sprints, I have worked primarily on Audio tasks in order to prepare for and work on the final push to finish the Alpha.

The first thing I did was a recording session for some of the SFX and Voice lines that we planned on using in the game and could not source from elsewhere. Hunter, Dylan, and Dylan's friend Robert Schellhas all took part in this recording process of recording the sounds for Grace, the Migo, as well as some miscellaneous SFX. Once finished, I edited, trimmed, and mixed these SFX and Voice lines and uploaded them to our Google drive to be implemented into the Unity project.

Next, I put together a plan for how Dylan and I were going to split up the work for finding, mixing, implementing, and testing the rest of the SFX for the Alpha.  Since Dylan is not as experienced with Unity, we decided that he should do the finding and mixing, while I work with Jerry on implementing and testing the SFX in the Unity branches we create.

Currently, we only have Grace's SFX implemented, as we are waiting for the Inventory, Equipment, and Dialog tasks to be completed by other departments before we can attach sounds to those actions.

Reflection

I am very pleased with how the recording session turned out. We were very productive during the time we set out, and the condenser microphone that I used ended up making for almost finished products once I finished getting the levels of each track in line. I do wish I was better about getting a proper level with the gain on my interface before we started recording, as I would not have to do so much tweaking later if I just set the volume high enough to start. As you can see in the screenshot above, I had to boost quite a few of the tracks after recording them.

Next Steps

Next, as mentioned previously, the Audio team and I hope to implement the rest fo the Phase 1 SFX as more and more of the UI and Dialog elements are completed. We will be operating on a case-by-case basis, meaning if something is finished and ready for us to work on, we will quickly make a branch to implement things, have the branch reviewed, and then merged into the main branch. Hopefully, we can finish at least Phase 1 of our desired Alpha state of the game.
