Nate's Devlog 7- We're in the Abyss now!

This week I worked a ton on journals and item descriptions. I tasked my writers to draft up some dialogue between the shopkeeper and Grace while I got to work on the author's first accounts of the abyss. We're still chugging away at item descriptions and adding new descriptions every week but with the items having to go through a whole process, there aren't a ton getting added every week. Either way, I've included screenshots of the newest journal entries depicting some characters and enemies the players will definitely recognize. Mi-go and the bull enemies are especially impactful here because I get to play them up as bigger and possibly "badder" entities.

In the future, I'm looking to expand the journals into a space where the player can get a bit more expositional backstory to the Mi-go and start to show the origins of the bull enemy. Spoiler alert: there's only one bull now, but when Grace gets there? Well, let's just say the abyss has learned how effective it can be. For the next sprint, there's going to be a lot of implementation going on within the narrative department with the Design lead overseeing. We're looking at shopkeeper barks/dialogue, more journal entries,  item descriptions, and we'll see a comeback for Grace's thoughts.

Now that the story is being fleshed out more, there's increasing room available for the thoughts portion of the story to make sense and hit home. Overall, I believe this was a productive sprint, and looking back, the only thing I would really change is just to get more eyes on narrative departmental work. Sure, writing is the job of the narrative department, but a good story is something that most people can detect quite easily. Sure, no story can be perfect and satisfy everyone, but opinions, when shared respectfully, almost always lead to a better result. The main point here is we need more opinions on the storyline so far. I hope to get the playtesting going and get feedback from people who are removed from this project. However, any and all feedback is both appreciated and accepted, as I really want this story to be the most intriguing and entertaining it can be.

Until next time,

-Nate
