Hunter Best - Devlog #6 - 3/29/2022

I was very busy this past week with other projects and familial obligations, which I did let the rest of the team know about. So, I was only asked to add a section to the menu theme. I'm not 100% sure that what I added is what we're looking for as my section definitely moves faster than the original.

For example:

As shown above, this is a part of the first section, though I won't say where exactly it is as this is an unfinished product. Notably, the fastest it gets is quarter notes.

However, as shown directly above, this is part of the section that I added. The fastest notes are sixteenth notes, which are twice as fast as quarter notes and I did not change the tempo.

We are attempting to add a bit of spookiness to the menu theme, so it's in a minor key. The first section, I believe, is meant to put the listener on edge. My section is meant to induce a mild panic as it often does in horror games when the speed of the music picks up. Usually, this attempt would be relatively effective, but as this is the menu theme, we may have to change or remove this section and replace it with something more appropriate, if the intent is to merely put players on edge. This is because the idea of adding a bit of panic to the sound might be better left to a combat section or a section where the player is getting chased, it might be too early to have a panic section in the menu theme. But, this entirely depends on opinion. A panic section might cause a player to push forward sooner or prepare them for the type of sounds they'll be hearing later in the game, so it might be beneficial to have that section, which is along the lines of what I was thinking when I wrote it. I will have to discuss this with the other members of my team in order to figure out if this is the right direction to take the menu theme depending on our overall intentions.
