Hunter Best - Devlog #5 - 3/22/2022
So, we had spring break last week, though I know that a good portion of the team was working on testing and debugging for the first playable demo, I found myself essentially unavailable until yesterday. Though I think for how much time I had, I managed to get a decent amount done, I only wish I'd been more available and of more use over the break, but I had several familial obligations to attend to, so I suppose it can't be helped.
Disclaimers aside, I managed to draft up a new font that we may be using for some journaling purposes in the game. I intended it to be more of a demo, but if those working on writing the journals like it, I think it might be used anyways as I tested it and it does appear functional. I'll have to wait and see if they need other characters or for it to be in a different file format, both of which are options that I can do fairly easily with the programs I have available. Here's a screenshot of all of the alphabetical characters I added at least:
I used a slanted brush as a short-order calligraphy pen. I would've used my actual calligraphy pen for writing it beforehand, but I only had so much time and the ink I had was more than a bit dried up. I'm hoping to either replace it or find a better tool in one of my programs should those writing the journals decide they want a fancier script.
Additionally, I added the enemy designs I created as proposals to the art and engineering teams. I think that they probably won't really get looked at until after the first-playable demo is over and done with. Still, I'm excited to see what they think... Although I'm not quite sure they're all entirely feasible, I'll have to wait and see on that though.
I, also, edited one of my themes again. Right now, the proposed idea would be for Grace's Melody although I wouldn't be surprised if that changes. I almost think it's too gentle for her, so it might make a good peaceful theme. Then again, it's really up to our Sound FX Lead. Either way, it's arguably the first time I've actually liked the theme for the most part. I wouldn't mind changing it to sound better, of course, but it sounds like an actual theme right now, which is better than where it started, so I'm pretty happy with that. I don't really see the point in adding more file pictures, but I will say that we're on the 3rd attempt right now. It currently contains a flute, a harp, and a cello.
I'm hoping to find out everyone's thought on where my pieces currently stand. I'll edit them if they're not satisfactory for what we're trying to do with the game. However, if they're deemed complete, I'd imagine the leads would give me additional things to do. Like a new theme to work on or working on some of the finer details for the game. In either case, I'll have to ask around to find out what I need to do next, so I'm hoping I can learn that by Thursday, if not earlier.
