Hunter Best - Devlog #4 - 3/8/2022
Recently, I've been switched from narrative to just general game design. I'm still in the music department, but I figured that while I wasn't exactly given a design task, I was encouraged to attempt to make either enemies or items. So, I created two potential enemies: The Shambler and The Crab.
The Shambler has 2 variations to it. One more focused on ranged damage and the other more focused on slowing the player for melee damage. Both options would be very slow-moving but have the capability of teleporting a short way if the player character got too close. This should give the player an element of surprise and be a little disorienting, disrupting the flow of battle for more difficulty and a more rewarding feeling when the player succeeds.
The Crab focuses primarily on ranged damage while giving the player a clear opportunity to do more damage against it. This enemy type would reward a player's ability to dodge blows as well as follow the patterns that it shows. Additionally, it has the ability to push back the player with its melee attack, making it a somewhat dangerous enemy to get close to.
For music, I edited Grace's theme, extending it and changing the harmonies and the base scale. There are some funky clashes in the harmony as of right now, so I'm hoping to get a second opinion on how to improve it as I think I've mostly been listening to it too much to make sense of it anymore. Hopefully, the few days that I've been waiting in between completing my task and getting advice will help in that respect.
Unfortunately with midterms this week, I was too busy to do much of anything else, but I'm nearly finished taking exams so hopefully, I will be able to spend more time working on the project after my last exams are completed. Although, as I've recently been given more responsibilities in other areas of my school life, I'll have to wait and see what demands for my time exist. I'm hoping though that once we have more details for how we want the game to function, I'll at least be able to direct my focus for whatever tasks I'm given more effectively.
