Nate's Devlog 2- It's heating up!
Hi! Nate back with another exciting update! After the success of our Proof of Concept presentation for the investors and stockholders, I'm feeling very energized about this project! This week I worked on the elevator pitch, tagline, authored the presentation slides, narrated/presented them, and gave a bunch of feedback on the miniboss assignment I gave to my writers.
Looking back at this particular sprint I was very impressed with the work achieved because it was a bit of a weird sprint. With the presentation, we had to cram a bit and since the narrative wasn't the focus we still wanted to have an impact and make sure as a department we shined. After today I really think we achieved that, especially with the Q&A portion giving me extra time to elaborate on the story. My next step is starting to create the "thoughts" Grace is having throughout the game as ways to tell the narrative. It'll be in a doc that will be added to every week starting this sprint. I want lines that can be used multiple times as well as unique thoughts that only happen rarely.
Looking forward I'm particularly excited about the prospective miniboss that could be added to the game because I came up with the idea of an iterative miniboss. What would basically happen would be the player would encounter this boss multiple times in the abyss and every time they see the boss it will have gotten an upgrade of sorts. This could be in the form of a new move, more health/armor, or it could bring in a couple of lackeys to help. Another great idea that was brought up was the concept of a cutscene in the background of the abyss while the player is in the core gameplay loop showcasing something monstrous (our miniboss) running around in the dark. In case it wasn't clear the boss would always flee instead of dying in its first stages otherwise it can't iterate on itself and learn new things. I'll be pushing to get a miniboss into the game but I need to meet with the design and art leads as well as the animator at least to gauge feasibility and interest.
Stay tuned for another great edition next week!
