Matt McL - Dev Log #1
For this sprint, I focused primarily on the Menu UI and Unity Implementation of said menu. I felt it would be best to get the main menu out of the way relatively quickly as we only have about 12 weeks left before the final build and would not want to worry about the Design choices of it in the late stages of development.
On top of this, it felt like the best thing to do as I could get it done in a rather timely manner, and because I was more unfamiliar with how the Github Repository 100% worked it felt like the right choice in case things messed up or if I did things incorrectly.
In terms of design choice, I felt that placing the main UI assets(Play game & The Title image on the right side, would allow players to better focus on the left side of the screen which would feature art in the future from the art team as the lead artist mentioned he wanted moving art on the title screen. With that said, the current Title font and the background image act as placeholders until other teams have time to work on them.
Features Worked On:
- Created an Introduction Sequence before the main menu
- Created Main Menu, Layout of Credits Menu, Layout Of Settings Menu
- Created working Menuscript for navigation and a Level2Load Timer Script that changes the current scene when the timer hits zero.
For the next sprint, I will be doing some more prototyping for the menus as many people liked the mix of Icons and Text Buttons, but there were still some people that didn’t like the idea of using both Icons and Text as menu buttons. Therefore I felt it would be best if I made some additional mockups to showcase the potential alternatives.
On top of that, I will be assisting the Narrative team with coming up with concepts for Mini-Boss ideas and checking over the narrative documents, and giving feedback as requested by the Narrative Lead.
